Mom Code Its Spicy

It’s Spicy” — The Universal Mom Code for ‘I Don’t Want to Share’

If you’re a mom, you already know the code.

Your kid walks up.
You finally have a moment.
You’re enjoying a cookie, your lunch, a drink—something that hasn’t been touched, dropped, or questioned.

They ask:
“Can I have some?”

And without missing a beat, you respond:
“It’s spicy.”

This is universal mom language for please let me have this one thing to myself.

The problem?
My husband and I actually eat spicy food. And therefore… so do our boys.

So instead of backing away like we planned, we’re met with the confident and devastating response:
“That’s okay. I like spicy too.”

Cue the internal panic.

Because now the excuse has failed, the plan has backfired, and you’re left dividing up what was supposed to be your secret treat into tiny “mom rations.”

No peaceful bite.
No secluded eating experience.
Just crumbs, chaos, and the realization that motherhood means nothing is ever truly yours.

Still worth it—but also… let me eat my cookie in peace.
