Working from home with kids is a special blend of focus, flexibility, and hoping no one screams during your Zoom meeting. Here are realistic tips that make it doable, and a little less chaotic. Trust me, I have been at it since 2020!
1. Get good headphones.
Kids will make noise. Shows will play. Toys will crash. Headphones will keep you sane.
2. Use a rolling workstation.

Because one day you’ll work at the dining table and the next you’ll be hiding in the hallway with your laptop during a call. Just roll with it — literally.
3. Create a simple routine.
Kids thrive on predictability. Having a structured day helps them feel included and helps you stay on task.
4. Don’t apologize for being a parent.
If your workplace hired a mom who works from home, then a toddler cameo isn’t a scandal — it’s expected. Own it confidently.
5. Keep a rotating distraction toolbox.
Cycle toys weekly so they feel “new” again. Huge win.
6. Set boundaries with love.
Teach them that when you’re on the phone, it’s quiet time. Practice makes progress, not perfection.
7. Communicate and be flexible.
Bad days happen. Deadlines shift. Take deep breaths and stay honest with your team. Transparency builds trust.
8. Ask for help.
You’re not meant to do everything alone. Partner, sitter, grandma — tag someone in when needed.
9. Simplify where you can.
Prep meals the night before. Lower expectations of perfection. A lived-in home is still a home.
10. Protect your wellbeing.
Breaks aren’t a luxury — they’re survival. Stretch. Hydrate. Step outside for two minutes. Pour back into yourself too.
Working from home with littles is messy, chaotic, beautiful, and possible. You’ve got this, and you’re doing better than you think. 💛
And when the day gets wild (because it will), go read my Mom Superhero post, it’s the pep talk we all need.
Work call in one ear, toddler negotiations in the other — just another day.
